Feeling Good and Looking Refreshed Can Be Accomplished On a Hot and Humid Summer Day

Do you have vivid memories of when something seemingly trivial made such an impression on you? I have many and one that pops every year at the start of summer is of an older woman who glided past me at an outdoor event. I think it was an antique car show in Connecticut. I was 14 years old.

She was elegant, calm, cool, and carefree. To me, she was this beautiful older woman. I wanted to be that woman – a woman I knew nothing about. It wasn’t until years later when I worked at a high-end retail shop in Northampton, Massachusetts, I realized that woman was wearing linen. I was struck by her, no doubt, but what captivated me was the luxurious cloth that draped on her with life.

I love linen. And I wear it all summer long. It’s my summer dress code that makes me feel elegant, calm, cool, and carefree.

On the hottest of days, you will find me in pants and a button-down shirt with my sleeves folded at three-quarters. With, of course, a comfortable, fun pair of slides. Friends will comment, “you must be dying,” or “aren’t you hot,” or “put on a pair of shorts, girl!”

No need. I’m hotter when I wear shorts and tank tops. I stick to everything, including myself. No thanks.

Seven Reasons Linen Is Special

Linen is like an aging woman. Linen…

  • Is naturally one of the strongest fibers creating long-lasting durable garments.

  • Ages beautifully, getting softer with every wash.

  • Is low maintenance and easy to care for with cold water and often low tumble drying.

  • Illustrates beauty with its wrinkles.

  • Is versatile for everyday wear, every season, every event, and every non-event.

  • Is effortlessly elegant, highly absorbent, and breathable.

  • Has exceptional healing properties just like that woman who donned her linen and calm and carefree energy. A vibe I caught.
